Nawoj calls for proactive measures to tackle insecurity in Nigeria
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ in Niger State Chapter of the North Central Nigeria has stressed the need for security agencies in the Country to take proactive measures in tackling the ongoing security challenges bedeviling the state.
A statement signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ Niger State Chapter, Rabi Sarki Bello and Secretary, Rita Durumi indicates that the abduction of the state Commissioner of information and Strategy,Mohammed Sani Idris yesterday in his hometown was worrisome.
“The continuous kidnapping of people in the state is alarming as it is becoming a trend,causing unnecessary tension among the populace.”
It also enjoins government to ensure the safe return of the children kidnapped from an Islamic school in Tegina in may this year .
Similarly, the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Niger state Chapter has also urged the Niger government, security agencies to intensify efforts in releasing the Information Commissioner, 130 Tegina Islamic Pupils and the APC Zonal Chairman abducted by bandits in the state.
The Chapel in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Yakubu Mustapha Bina and the Secretary Daniel Okpole Atori, prayed the Government and relevant agencies to beef up its strategy to ensure the timely release of the victims abducted in the state .
The statement however commended the government and joint task force for the success stories so far in repelling armed bandits in some parts of the State.
While calling on everyone to be more vigilant, the Correspondents Chapel tasked residents to report any strange moves and suspected persons to the relevant agencies.
