Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu has commended Osun State Local Governments Chairmen for enhancing security with the distribution of 90 operational vehicles and other equipment to all the security agencies in the state.
Speaking at the event which attracted all head security agencies, Disu described the initiative as a significant milestone to strengthening security architecture in the command.

He commended the Council Chairmen for the noble move saying, the vehicles will enhance operational efficiency, and deepen the confidence of the citizens.
The IGP who was represented by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan noted that the occasion marks yet another significant milestone in the ALGON’s efforts to strengthen security architecture by the Command.
He said the vehicles would enhance operational efficiency, and deepen the confidence of the citizens.
” This laudable gesture is a clear demonstration of your unwavering commitment to the safety, security and well-being of the good people of the state. It takes visionary leadership to recognize the critical role that logistics and mobility play in modern policing, and you have risen to the occasion.
“The donation of these operational vehicles will significantly enhance our capacity to dominate public space, engage in proactive surveillance, speedy response to distress calls, ease patrols, visibility policing, and ultimately improve our overall operational efficiency for the safety of the state. Osun state council chairmen have indeed solved the major problem confronting the security services in the state,” The IGP said.
The CP on behalf of all security agencies thanked ALGON for what he described as “thoughtful and impactful intervention”, pledging that the vehicles would be judiciously and professionally used in the best interest of public safety.
He however used the opportunity to call on other organizations and well-meaning individuals to emulate the noble gesture of ALGON, saying together, we can build a safer society for all.
The Head of Local Government Chairmen, who is also the Chairman of Ifedayo Local Council, Mr Samuel Abiodun reaffirmed the Local Governments commitment to security at the grassroots.
He said the local governments will continuously leverage on their autonomy to deliver impactful governance at the local council level.
“We will not relent in investing in initiatives that promote security, peace and sustainable development. “
Handing over the operational vehicles, the ALGON Chairman said the initiative is a direct product of the growing autonomy of local government aimed at enhancing the security apparatus in the state.
According to him, the distribution of security operational vehicles will enhance mobility, improve rapid responses, and enable security agencies to be more proactive on security issues.
“This event is not just about the handing over of the vehicles to different security agencies in the state alone, but it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the safety, security and well-being of our people. Security remains the bedrock of any meaningful development. Without peace and stability, no society can thrive, and no government can achieve its developmental goals”.
Abiodun said other security equipment have been procured in addition to the 90 units of the new security patrol vehicles, which he said would be handed over to the security agencies in batches before the end of May.
The ALGON Chairman said as the closest tier of government to the people, they understand the peculiar security challenges within the communities, and are determined to support all necessary efforts to address them effectively.
The benefitting security agencies are: Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps; Directorate of State Services; Federal Roads Safety Corps, Nigerian Immigration Service, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Fire Service; Nigeria Correctional Service, among others.
In their separate remarks, all heads of security agencies applauded the Council Chairmen for deeming it worthwhile to boost the operations of the security outfits.
They said: “this is what we have been clamouring for. This will enhance our operation to perform optimally. What is common to all of us here, particularly the security operatives is to secure and protect lives and property and with these vehicles, our problem on mobility is solved”.
