The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party SDP, Mr. Abimbola Akeem, has formally accepted his emergence as the party’s flag bearer at the SDP National Convention and Primary Election held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Speaking after his emergence, Akeem expressed gratitude and humility, pledging to provide purposeful leadership built on justice, unity, transparency, and service to the people.
He said; “With a great sense of gratitude and humility, I formally accept my nomination as the presidential candidate under the banner of the Social Democratic Party. I sincerely thank the leadership of our great party and my supporters across Nigeria who believe that our nation can rise again through purposeful leadership, justice, and unity.”
He noted that his emergence was not about personal ambition but about restoring the hopes of millions of Nigerians seeking security, economic growth, quality education, affordable healthcare, employment opportunities for youths, and a government that truly cares for its citizens.
According to him, “despite Nigeria’s enormous human and natural resources, many citizens continue to face hardship and uncertainty,” stressing that the country now needs compassionate, transparent, accountable, and people-oriented leadership.
“The time has come for leadership that is compassionate, transparent, accountable, and people-oriented. It is time for leadership that prioritises service to the people,” he stated.
Akeem further emphasised his belief in the potential of Nigerian youths, women, workers, and communities, promising inclusive governance that promotes peace, development, merit, integrity, and national progress.
“I believe our youths deserve opportunities, our women deserve inclusion and empowerment, our workers deserve dignity, and our communities deserve peace and development. Under the platform of the Social Democratic Party, we will build a nation where merit, integrity, and service become the foundation of governance,” he explained..
The SDP presidential candidate called on party delegates and members to support his ambition with trust and prayers, assuring that his campaign would focus on ideas, unity, sincerity, and practical solutions to the nation’s challenges, especially insecurity.
He pledged to lead with honesty, fairness, courage, and a sense of Responsibility, while remaining committed to the ideals of the SDP and the vision of a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria.
“Together, we can restore hope, rebuild our nation, and move Nigeria forward,” Akeem said, while praying for the party and the country.
