The Anambra State Government has received two 40-foot containers of medical equipment donated by MedShare International in partnership with The Coca-Cola Company.

The donation is under the Coca-Cola Safe Birth Initiative aimed at improving maternal and newborn healthcare services.

The equipment was officially received by the Anambra State Hospital Administrator, Frank Ifeanaeme, who described the donation as a significant boost to healthcare delivery across the state.

Health officials said “the intervention followed an assessment that identified major shortages in medical equipment and supplies needed to strengthen hospital services and reduce maternal and child mortality.”

According to the officials, “the Safe Birth Initiative focuses on supporting public hospitals through the provision of essential medical equipment, technical support, and training for healthcare workers and biomedical engineers.’

Ifeanaeme said the programme would enhance the capacity of hospitals to deliver quality healthcare services for women and children in Anambra State.

He explained that the initiative also includes practical training sessions for biomedical engineers and technicians from public, mission, and private hospitals to ensure proper maintenance and long-term use of the donated equipment.

The training sessions, led by MedShare’s Chief Biomedical Engineer, focus on the repair and maintenance of medical devices to improve hospital efficiency and patient care outcomes.

Among the donated items are 438 medical supplies and equipment, including baby incubators, infant warmers, oxygen concentrators, nebulisers, hospital beds, medical refrigerators, wheelchairs and X-ray screens.

Officials said installation of the equipment in selected health facilities across the state will commence in the coming weeks.

The Coca-Cola Safe Birth Initiative, supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation and implemented in partnership with MedShare International, is designed to improve access to quality maternal and neonatal healthcare while reducing the cost burden on public hospitals in Nigeria.
