Pope Leo XIV has condemned what he described as a “sharp intensification” of the war in Ukraine, expressing solidarity with civilians affected by recent attacks.
Speaking during his weekly audience at the Vatican, the Pope said he was following developments in Ukraine with concern and lamented the growing toll of the conflict.
He said; “I am following with concern the war in Ukraine. War does not solve problems, but aggravates them. It does not build security, but multiplies suffering and hatred.”
He added that where missiles and drones fall, “hopes also fall, homes and places of worship are destroyed, and innocent lives are shattered.”
