The Katsina State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has trained farmers in Katsina, Jibia and Kaita LGAs on climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farm input use to improve productivity and enhance resilience to climate change.

Speaking at the training workshop held in Katsina, the State Project Coordinator, Alhaji Nafiu Musa, said the initiative was designed to equip farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to maximize the benefits of agricultural support expected to be distributed by the project.

He explained that the training forms part of ACReSAL’s efforts to enhance agricultural resilience, improve food security and promote sustainable farming practices across Katsina State.

Alhaji Musa noted that the project has continued to achieve significant milestones through the support of Governor Dikko Radda, whose commitment has created an enabling environment for the successful implementation of interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities.

He urged participants to make effective use of the knowledge acquired during the workshop to improve their farming activities and increase productivity.

Earlier, the project’s Environmental Safeguard and Agricultural Officer, Sanusi Faskari, said the training was organised to expose farmers to modern agricultural techniques that would enable them adapt to the challenges of climate change while ensuring the efficient and responsible use of farm inputs, including fertilizers, improved seeds and agrochemicals.

Resource persons at the workshop delivered presentations on sustainable agricultural practices and climate-smart farming approaches.

A representative of the Katsina State Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KTARDA), Malam Tanimu Hamza, highlighted the importance of proper application of farm inputs to improve crop yields, reduce waste and minimize environmental degradation.

Also, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic discussed strategies for adapting to changing weather conditions, conserving natural resources and enhancing sustainable agricultural productivity.

Participants engaged in interactive discussions on climate change adaptation, soil management and other best farming practices, while expressing appreciation to the ACReSA Project for organising the training.

They described the workshop as timely and beneficial, pledging to apply the knowledge gained and share it with other farmers in their respective communities.
