The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) are set to take part in the bye-election for the Zuru Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
The election is set to hold on June 20, 2026, according to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing stakeholders at a meeting in Birnin Kebbi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kebbi State, Abubakar Dambo, said only the APC and LP met the deadline for the submission of candidates following the conduct of their primary elections.

According to him, INEC fixed May 22 to May 26, 2026, for political parties to democratically nominate candidates for the election in line with Section 84 of the Electoral Act.
“At the expiration of the deadline, only the APC and LP met INEC’s requirements for the submission of candidates.
“Consequently, only the two parties will participate in the bye-election. They are also required to submit the names of their polling agents on or before June 10, 2026,” he said.

Dambo stated that political campaigns would end on June 18, 2026, while the election would be conducted on June 20.
He stated that the existing 109,392 voters’ register would be used for the 200 polling units and appealed to voters and other stakeholders to cooperate fully with INEC to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.
The REC also stressed that the final result and declaration of the winner would be made by the Returning Officer for the bye-election in Zuru Constituency.
The seat became vacant following the death of the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Usman Muhammad Zuru, on April 6, 2026.
