President Bola Tinubu has designated the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, to represent Nigeria at the 11th edition of the Our Ocean Conference, OOC11, scheduled to hold in Mombasa, Kenya, from June 16 to 18.
This was made known in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
The conference, regarded as the world’s leading platform for voluntary ocean action, brings together governments, private sector leaders, civil society organisations, academics, and coastal communities to promote sustainable ocean management and address growing environmental challenges.
This year’s conference comes at a time of increasing concerns over ocean degradation, climate change, illegal fishing, plastic pollution, and maritime security.
Discussions will focus on strengthening global commitments to ocean health, sustainable blue economy initiatives, and enhanced international cooperation.

The event will feature high-level leadership sessions involving heads of state and ministers, investment forums on the blue economy, innovation and technology exhibitions, as well as thematic workshops and regional policy dialogues.
As one of Africa’s major maritime nations with extensive coastal resources and a strategic position in the Gulf of Guinea, Nigeria is expected to highlight its efforts in developing the blue economy, addressing climate change, improving ocean health, strengthening maritime security, and promoting regional cooperation.
The conference is also expected to explore new financing opportunities and partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable ocean development across Africa and beyond.
