The Niger State Government North Central Nigeria has reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, saying normalcy has been restored in Pissa Community of Borgu Local Government Area following a recent bandit attack.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, the government clarified comments made by the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Magaji, regarding the security incident.
The government acknowledged that armed bandits attacked the community, leading to the loss of lives and destruction of property. It described the incident as unfortunate and extended its condolences to the families of those affected and the entire community.
Restored Peace
Hon. Nana explained that some media reports misinterpreted the comments of the Homeland Security Commissioner. He said the commissioner did not deny that the attack occurred but was emphasising that swift intervention by security agencies had brought the situation under control and restored peace to the area.
According to the statement, security agencies, working closely with local authorities and community leaders, responded immediately after the attack. Their prompt action helped to contain the situation, prevent further loss of lives, and stop the criminals from extending their activities to neighbouring communities.
The government noted that security presence has been strengthened in Borgu and other vulnerable areas of the state. It added that surveillance and intelligence-led operations are ongoing as part of efforts to detect and prevent criminal activities before they occur.
The Commissioner stressed that the Niger State Government remains determined to tackle all forms of insecurity and will continue to provide security agencies with the necessary support, resources, and coordination needed to protect residents.
He also called on members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and obtain information from credible and official sources.
The statement reaffirmed the government’s resolve to take proactive measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace and security across Niger State, assuring residents that the safety and well-being of citizens remain a top priority of the administration.
