The NSA was represented at the event by the Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Civil Society Liaison, Dr. Chido Onumah.

The summit brought together security institutions and media stakeholders to examine the changing relationship between journalists and security agencies in an environment where information, public confidence and operational realities increasingly intersect.

The summit heard that modern security challenges require cooperation between institutions responsible for national security and those responsible for informing the public.

Discussions highlighted the need for a balanced approach that allows citizens access to credible information while protecting sensitive operational details capable of affecting ongoing security efforts.

Representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Nigeria Police Force also emphasised the importance of improved engagement mechanisms between security institutions and the media.

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, who was represented by Rear Admiral Olubankolle Olusanya, noted that media engagement has become increasingly connected to security operations because public understanding influences cooperation and confidence in institutions.

The discussions emphasised that security outcomes are shaped not only by operational activities but also by the ability of institutions to communicate accurately and maintain public trust.

Also the inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, represenred by AIG Miller Dantawaye, called for stronger coordination between security agencies and journalists to reduce misunderstandings and improve information flow.

The summit recommended sustained engagement, improved verification processes, joint training and communication structures that operate beyond periods of crisis.

The summit reinforces a growing institutional focus on strategic communication as part of national security planning.

The emerging direction suggests that future security coordination will increasingly require both operational capability and effective communication systems to strengthen public confidence and national resilience.
