The Actors Guild of Nigeria has announced plans to mark International Actors Day across the country on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.
The guild will join actors and the wider global creative community to pay tribute to performers whose talent, sacrifice and creativity continue to shape the film industry.
International Actors Day is set aside to honour actors, acknowledge their contributions, advance their welfare and professional growth, foster unity within the acting fraternity, and spotlight the huge cultural and economic importance of the motion picture sector.
It also provides a moment to consider the challenges facing performers and to recommit to building a more sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive creative industry.
The celebration carries particular weight for Nigeria. Over the years, Nigerian actors have shown remarkable resilience, creativity, dedication and professionalism. Their work has helped grow what is now known as Nollywood into one of the world’s most recognised film industries.
Through their performances, storytelling and cultural expression, Nigerian actors have projected the nation’s identity, values, heritage and creativity to audiences worldwide, while also driving employment, tourism, investment and the expansion of the creative economy.
To mark the 2026 edition, AGN has lined up several activities. These include community service and outreach programmes, social networking events, actors’ hangouts, industry engagements, goodwill initiatives and other activities aimed at promoting camaraderie, professional networking and the welfare of members.
AGN President, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, praised Nigerian actors for their sacrifices and commitment to Nollywood’s growth.
He noted that the industry’s impressive progress would not “have been possible without the talent, courage and perseverance of its actors.”
He urged all Nollywood guilds and associations, industry stakeholders, government at all tiers, corporate bodies, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Actors Guild of Nigeria in making the 2026 International Actors Day a meaningful and memorable occasion.
Yakubu noted that “the celebration should go beyond entertainment. He said it should serve as a platform to strengthen solidarity, encourage partnerships, promote actors’ welfare and reaffirm the role of the creative sector in national development.”
The guild has sent warm greetings and appreciation to actors in Nigeria and around the world for their invaluable contributions to the global entertainment landscape.
AGN congratulated all actors in advance and called on everyone to celebrate the passion, creativity and enduring spirit of the actor.
