Nigeria and Mauritania have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and strengthening partnership in key areas including trade, economic development, regional integration, peace and security.
The commitment was made during a meeting in Abuja between the Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, and Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, who visited Nigeria as Special Envoy of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The Mauritanian envoy conveyed President Ghazouani’s goodwill to President Bola Tinubu and called for stronger collaboration between African countries to address challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, security and economic growth.

He also sought Nigeria’s support for Mauritania’s candidature for the post of Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Ambassador Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with Mauritania to promote peace, stability and development across Africa, while pledging continued cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
Both countries expressed confidence in the continued growth of their longstanding relationship and commitment to advancing shared interests
