The Nigerian Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s foreign policy institutions and ensuring that diplomacy delivers tangible benefits to citizens.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shola Enikanolaiye, gave the assurance while receiving a delegation of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN), led by its Chairman, Ambassador Joe Keshi, in Abuja.
Ambassador Enikanolaiye said the Ministry was undertaking strategic reforms aimed at enhancing institutional capacity, improving administrative efficiency and advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.

He noted that the country’s diplomacy would continue to be guided by the 4-Ds framework — Demography, Development, Democracy and Diaspora — with a strong focus on economic value creation and citizen welfare.
The Minister also emphasised the need to strengthen economic diplomacy, attract investment, expand trade opportunities and address funding challenges through innovative partnerships and better management of diplomatic assets.
On the welfare of retired diplomats, he assured ARCAN members of the government’s commitment to addressing outstanding pension and welfare concerns.
He further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and disclosed plans to reactivate bilateral mechanisms with South Africa to address issues affecting nationals of both countries.
In his remarks, Ambassador Joe Keshi congratulated the Minister on his appointment and pledged ARCAN’s support in advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy goals, while calling for sustained investment in diplomatic capacity building.
Both parties agreed to work closely in support of institutional reforms and diplomatic excellence.
