The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration and Supervising DIG for the North-West geopolitical zone, DIG Sulaiman Muhammad Abdul has concluded a comprehensive operational visit to Sokoto State aimed at assessing the security situation, boosting personnel morale and strengthening community partnerships.
The DIG, accompanied by CP Magaji Ismail, was received on arrival by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10, AIG Augustine G. Grimah, and the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, alongside members of the Command’s management team and heads of other security agencies.
The visit commenced with an interactive stakeholders’ session involving community leaders, traditional rulers, youth representatives and women groups.

The forum provided an opportunity for participants to discuss security concerns, offer suggestions on community safety and propose practical measures for enhancing self-security.
Participants also advocated for the adoption of ranching by herders as a sustainable solution to recurring farmer-herder clashes.
In his welcome address, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa presented a detailed overview of the Command’s activities over the past three months.
He highlighted notable achievements in crime-fighting and intelligence-led policing since assuming office, while also outlining key operational and logistical challenges facing the Command.
Speaking during the engagement, AIG Augustine G. Grimah commended the DIG for the visit and appealed for the provision of advanced surveillance equipment to enhance the operational effectiveness of Zone 10.
Addressing stakeholders, DIG Sulaiman Muhammad Abdul reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to community-based policing and assured residents of the Force’s determination to improve public safety and security across the state.
The DIG subsequently delivered a lecture to officers and personnel of the Sokoto State Command, stressing the importance of professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.
As part of the visit, the DIG paid a welfare visit to the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Sokoto, where he met with Police Constable Abdulrazak Muhammad, who is receiving treatment for gunshot injuries sustained during an encounter with bandits in Tureta Local Government Area on 21 June 2026.
He commended the officer for his courage and assured him of the Force’s full support throughout his recovery.
The DIG also inspected the security infrastructure at the Police Children School in the Farfaru area of Sokoto to assess measures put in place to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for the children of police personnel.
In furtherance of efforts to strengthen collaboration between traditional institutions and the Nigeria Police Force, DIG Sulaiman Muhammad Abdul and his entourage paid a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, at his palace.
During the visit, discussions centred on enhancing cooperation between the Police and traditional leaders in sustaining peace, security and stability across the state.
