The Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) has inaugurated the Nigeria Road Assessment Programme (NigeriaRAP) Steering Committee.
The Committee will drive strategic partnership and evidence based road infrastructure safety management aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities across Nigeria.

He noted that road traffic crashes remain a major public health and development challenge globally, stressing that proactive infrastructure assessment remains critical to protecting road users and saving lives.
The NigeriaRAP was established by the FRSC in partnership with the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) to systematically evaluate road infrastructure safety, identify and eliminate high-risk road sections, and enhance protection for vulnerable road users.
Strategic Pillers
The programme is anchored on three strategic pillars: strengthening local partnerships, fostering international collaborations, and promoting the attainment of Three-Star Road Safety Ratings and above on Nigerian roads.
The Corps Marshal recalled that Nigeria’s journey towards institutionalising the programme began with the inauguration of the Stakeholders Committee in February 2021 and was further strengthened with the signing of the National Licence Agreement between FRSC and iRAP on November 18, 2025, which formally launched NigeriaRAP in the country.

He noted that the Steering Committee is expected to provide strategic direction, coordination, and leadership for the successful implementation of the programme.
Membership of the Steering Committee comprises key stakeholders drawn from both the public and private sectors.
They include; the KRSD Foundation, Federal Ministry of Works, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Ministry of Transportation, Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN), Green Light Initiative, and other strategic partners committed to advancing road safety and sustainable transportation in Nigeria.
While appreciating members of the Committee for honouring the invitation and demonstrating commitment to the initiative, the Corps Marshal charged them to remain proactive and dedicated in discharging their responsibilities towards achieving the objectives of NigeriaRAP.
He expressed confidence that through collective action, sustained collaboration, and strategic investments in safer road infrastructure, the programme would significantly contribute to reducing road traffic fatalities and creating a safer road transport environment for all Nigerians.
