The Nigeria Customs Service, Tincan Island Port Command has opened a new chapter of partnership with the media, pledging closer collaboration to drive efficiency, compliance, and transparency at the port.
The Tincan Area Controller, Comptroller J.A. Anani, during his first media engagement with maritime Journalists, said the media is central to the Command’s reform agenda.

“You are more than reporters of our activities. The press is a strategic partner in promoting accountability, shaping public understanding, and strengthening compliance.“The way you report our work directly affects public trust and the success of our mandate. ”he said.
To strengthen partnership with the media, the Controller announced immediate plans to equip journalists through training, sensitisation workshops and capacity-building programmes.
He also directed the Command’s Public Relations Unit to serve as a dedicated liaison, ensuring journalists get timely, accurate, and transparent information.
“A well-informed press corps means better reportage and better public understanding of our challenges and operations,” he noted.
Comptroller Anani affirmed that operations at Tincan Island would be fully guided by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, with compliance as the foundation of every decision.
He promised that the Command would key into the Service’s modernisation drive, deploying technology-driven systems to improve trade facilitation and port efficiency.
On performance, he disclosed that the command generated N111.27 billion in May 2026 saying “the revenue generation at Tincan Port remains strong, driven by officer dedication and higher compliance levels”.
According to him, The Command is focused on sustaining the momentum and exceeding past records.

The Area Controller commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for the opportunity to lead the strategic Command, and restated his administration’s open-door policy.
“This Command is open, collaborative, and committed to constructive engagement. With the media as our ally, Tincan Island Port will continue to deliver on its mandate for national growth, trade facilitation, and revenue generation,” Anani concluded.
