The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has underscored the importance of synergy among the Armed Forces, saying joint operations remain critical to achieving mission success in modern warfare.

Air Marshal Aneke made the assertion while delivering a lecture titled, “Military Strategic Leadership: My Perspective,” to participants of Air War Course 12/2026 at the Air Force War College Nigeria (AFWCN) in Makurdi on Monday.

The participants comprised senior officers of the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy, as well as allied officers from Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Speaking on the evolving security environment, the CAS said: “Contemporary warfare requires leaders with foresight, adaptability and a collaborative mindset capable of delivering decisive military outcomes”.

National Strategic Objectives

He noted that effective military leadership extends beyond command authority to inspiring personnel, shaping institutions and translating national strategic objectives into operational success.

According to him, “Synergy is not optional; it is a strategic necessity,” stressing that integrated planning and coordinated execution enable commanders to achieve results beyond the capabilities of any single Service.

Air Marshal Aneke explained that the deliberate integration of airpower with surface forces enhances operational effectiveness and remains essential in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Professional and Mission-Ready

The CAS further stated that his command philosophy is focused on building a highly motivated, professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering effective airpower in synergy with surface forces to achieve national security objectives.

He said that this vision is being pursued through mission-focused training, personnel development, innovation, strategic partnerships and sustained operational readiness, adding that strategic leadership depends on policy foresight rather than reactive decision-making.

The lecture ended with an interactive session during which participants exchanged ideas with the CAS on strategic leadership, joint operations and future warfare, reinforcing the need for stronger interoperability and joint force integration in tackling emerging security challenges.
