Ghana has become the ninth African country to join the TV BRICS International Media Network after the Ghana News Agency (GNA) signed a cooperation agreement with the organisation.
The agreement was signed by the General Manager of GNA, Albert Kofi Owusu, and the Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief of TV BRICS, Janna Tolstikova.
The partnership provides for the exchange of news content, the production of analytical media materials and cooperation in the training and professional development of media personnel.
Speaking after the signing, Owusu said the agreement would expand GNA’s international news exchange and strengthen media cooperation among countries in the Global South.
He said the partnership would also support the exchange of development-focused content and provide a platform for sharing African perspectives with wider international audiences.
Tolstikova said the participation of more African media organisations in the TV BRICS network reflected growing engagement between the continent and BRICS countries in the areas of information exchange and media cooperation.
She noted that South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia are BRICS member states, while Nigeria and Uganda are BRICS partner countries.
According to her, Ghana’s inclusion in the network would broaden media cooperation in West Africa and contribute to the exchange of information on trade, investment and regional development.
Founded in 1957 and headquartered in Accra, the Ghana News Agency is Ghana’s state-owned news agency. It publishes in English and reports on national and international socio-economic issues.
With the agreement, Ghana becomes the 34th country to participate in the TV BRICS international information exchange. The network’s African partners now include Egypt, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ethiopia, South Africa and Ghana.
