Chief Ifeanyi Osegbo on Sunday formally assumed office as Chairman of the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging to unite and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Osegbo assumed office at the APC State Secretariat in Awka during a gathering attended by party stakeholders from the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards, alongside members of the State Executive Committee, youth and women leaders, and supporters.
His emergence follows party congresses conducted between February and March 2026, which his supporters said produced a new state executive. However, the development comes amid continued disagreement with the rival executive led by Senator Emma Anosike over the leadership of the party in the state.
The Anosike-led executive rejected Osegbo’s assumption of office, maintaining that the leadership dispute remains before the courts. The faction argued that any change in the state’s leadership must be effected by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and the party’s National Chairman in line with the party’s constitution.

Osegbo’s supporters, however, maintained that the new executive emerged through duly conducted congresses and is backed by a valid court judgment recognising it as the legitimate leadership of the APC in Anambra State.

The new state executive comprises Comrade Chidi Orji as State Secretary, Hon. Victor Awogu as State Treasurer, Mr Tony-Uche Ezekwelu as State Publicity Secretary and Richard Egenti as State Legal Adviser.
In his inaugural address, Osegbo pledged to rebuild and strengthen the APC in Anambra through reconciliation, inclusiveness, accountability and transparent leadership.
“Our priority is to build a united political structure that protects the interests of every genuine party member and positions our candidates for electoral success,” he said.
He added that his administration would strengthen the party’s structures from the state level to the wards and polling units, deepen internal democracy, encourage greater participation of youths and women, and ensure accountability in the management of party affairs.
As part of efforts to reposition the party, Osegbo inaugurated three committees—a Truth and Reconciliation Committee, a Strategy and Tactical Committee, and an Election Planning and Winning Committee, to promote internal cohesion and coordinate preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Victor Awogu, the State Treasurer and the APC House of Representatives candidate for Ogbaru Federal Constituency, described Osegbo as a visionary and unifying leader. He said the new chairman’s leadership would strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and attract more political stakeholders and supporters to the APC.
