APC Renominates Tinubu, Shettima for 2027 Presidential Election

Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election, ending months of speculation over the party’s vice-presidential nominee.

The development was announced in Abuja after the APC submitted the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for the forthcoming presidential poll.

Presidential Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, confirmed the submission on behalf of the President.

Speaking to journalists after the submission, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr Felix Morka, said the party was confident of securing another electoral victory in 2027.

He noted that the decision to retain the Tinubu-Shettima ticket reflected the party’s confidence in the leadership team that won the 2023 presidential election.

Following the announcement, Vice President Shettima visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, was understood to be an opportunity for the Vice President to express appreciation to the President and the party leadership after his renomination.

The APC’s decision brings to an end months of public debate and media speculation over whether the party would field a different vice-presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

By retaining the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, the ruling party has opted for continuity as it prepares for the next presidential contest.
