Operation HADIN KAI says its troops have disrupted a Boko Haram/ISWAP extortion network in Yobe State.
The operation led to the killing of one terrorist and the recovery of weapons, ammunition and logistics items allegedly used to sustain insurgent activities.
The operation underscores ongoing military efforts to target not only insurgent fighters but also the financial and logistical structures that sustain terrorist activities across the North-East.
In a statement, Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the intelligence-led operation thwarted an attempt by terrorists to extort residents in communities along the Paya Kafiya axis.
According to the Theatre Command, troops of Sector 2 from the Forward Operating Base Bukarti, working alongside the 27 Task Force Brigade, acted on credible intelligence that terrorists travelling in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles were heading to the area to collect illegal levies.
The troops intercepted the convoy on July 19 and engaged the insurgents in a firefight. The military said one of the vehicles was immobilised and its driver neutralised, while four other suspected terrorists escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
A follow-up operation on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools believed to support terrorist logistics.
“The operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist logistics chains and cutting off illicit revenue sources that finance insurgent activities,” the Theatre Command said.
The military added that sustained pressure, in collaboration with other security agencies and local communities, would continue until terrorist networks are dismantled and lasting peace is restored across the North-East.
