Expert Seeks Greater Investment in Nigeria’s Remote Work Economy

The founder of a digital training academy, Egharevba Odosa, has called on the Nigerian government, the private sector and development institutions to increase investment in the country’s remote work economy as a strategy for tackling youth unemployment.

Odosa said there was a widening gap between the growing global demand for skilled remote professionals and Nigeria’s capacity to prepare young people for such opportunities.

She noted that businesses across Europe, North America and other regions were actively seeking virtual assistants, project coordinators, social media managers and customer service professionals.

According to her, “Nigeria has a large pool of educated young people capable of filling these roles but lacks adequate investment in skills development and job placement systems.”

Odosa urged stakeholders to support practical training programmes aligned with employer needs and strengthen pathways that connect trained individuals to paid remote jobs.

She said “greater institutional support for remote work initiatives could significantly expand employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.’

The entrepreneur also encouraged Nigerian businesses to embrace remote work as a sustainable employment model rather than a temporary arrangement, stressing that “it offers a faster route to job creation than many traditional sectors.’

According to her, remote work can absorb skilled talent more quickly because it requires less infrastructure and capital investment than conventional industries.

She stressed that increased collaboration among government, development partners and the private sector would help unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s remote work economy in addressing unemployment.
