A University don and Professor of mathematics, Kamilu Rauf has prevailed on the Federal Government to stop looking for foreign solutions to Nigerian problems.

The Don also urged both state and Federal Governments to vote not less than 42 percent of their annual budget to education.

He made these submissions in Ilorin the Kwara state Capital North Central Nigeria at the 202 inaugural lecture of the University.

He recalled the late Premier of the Western Region,  Chief Obafemi Awolowo set aside such percentage of budget to education adding that the result is still obvious

The University Teacher described Mathematics as a subject that can be used to calculate a healthy lifestyle.

Professor Rauf added that human beings could make right decisions about the type of food to eat for health living.

He stated that with proper understanding of mathematics, we can calculate how much food we require in our daily live and how much calorie intake we expect to stay fit adding that apart from that, when it comes to food choice, we can calculate which food will give us how much calories and fat.

According to him, the more mathematical we are in our approach, the more successful and promising we will be stressing that mathematics offers rationality to our thoughts.

The don also explained further that mathematics is an instrument in our hands to make our lives simpler and easier and that certain qualities that are nurtured by mathematics are power of reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving ability and even effective communication skills.

He, therefore, urged the public to recognize and appreciate the beauty of the subject of and embrace it with all hearts.

The topic of the lecture is ‘A brief tour into the world of in-equations that rule our everyday lives’.
