The Police Commissioner overseeing Ede South, Mr Gabriel O E, has assured residents that security personnel are on the ground to maintain peace and protect voters as the Osun governorship election progresses.
The assurance came as voting continued peacefully across several polling units visited in Ede South, including Ward 1, Unit 1 at Anuolu Junction, Ward 2, Unit 1, and Alajue Ward 4, Units 4 and 5.
Mr Gabriel said the security agencies were closely monitoring the exercise and would ensure that voters are able to exercise their democratic rights in a safe and orderly environment.
The calm atmosphere was also reflected in the conduct of voters, with many patiently waiting in queues to cast their ballots.
One of the voters, Abass Mujeeb Kehinde, said the exercise was going smoothly, with no violence recorded at the polling units visited.
“We are exercising our fundamental right to vote, and there is no violence. Everything is going well,” he said.
Abass added that some voters who had already cast their ballots were staying behind to witness the counting and ensure that their votes were properly protected.
Across the polling units visited, voters remained orderly and peaceful, while security personnel maintained a visible presence.
The prevailing atmosphere underscores the importance of peaceful participation, respect for the electoral process and allowing voters to freely exercise their franchise as the election continues.
