The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for a coordinated regional response to insecurity in the North-West, stressing the need for intelligence sharing, inter-state cooperation and stronger community engagement.
Disu made the call while delivering the opening address at the North-West Security Summit in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The three-day summit, hosted by the Zamfara State Government, brought together governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, experts, development partners, civil society representatives and other stakeholders to deliberate on security challenges confronting the region.
Key issues under discussion include banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation, communal conflicts, farmer-herder tensions and other related threats.

The IGP said no single security agency, government or institution could tackle the region’s security challenges alone, urging stakeholders to strengthen intelligence sharing, coordinate operations across state boundaries and improve border security.
He also emphasised the importance of community participation and traditional institutions in providing credible intelligence, preventing crime and strengthening early-warning mechanisms.
The Nigeria Police Force cautioned stakeholders against ethnic or religious profiling, stressing that criminality had no ethnicity and terrorism had no religion.
Disu called for criminal networks and their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and facilitators to be identified and brought to justice, regardless of their background or affiliation.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations, rapid response, inter-agency collaboration and community partnerships.
He charged participants to ensure that the summit produced practical and measurable resolutions that would strengthen security, protect vulnerable communities and restore public confidence across the North-West.
