President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has felicitated the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a stabilising voice, bridge-builder and moral compass for the nation.
In a personally signed message commemorating the Sultan’s 70th birthday, President Tinubu described his life as one defined by service, wisdom and dedication to peace, noting that his nearly two decades on the throne have exemplified the Sokoto Caliphate’s enduring traditions of scholarship, humility and national unity.
The President commended the Sultan’s role in fostering peaceful coexistence and interfaith dialogue, as well as his advocacy for education, the girl-child and humanitarian service.

He noted that the monarch’s leadership has transcended religious and regional boundaries, particularly through his interventions during periods of tension and national uncertainty.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the Sultan’s contributions to nation-building, describing his counsel and support for security, community development and the spiritual well-being of Nigerians as important to strengthening the country’s unity and stability.
“I have come to know you as a leader who speaks truth with compassion, who counsels patience without weakness, and who champions unity without compromising conviction,” the President said.
President Tinubu, on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the Federal Government and Nigerians, wished the Sultan continued good health and strength, praying that Allah would preserve him for his family, the Sokoto Caliphate and the nation.
Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III ascended the throne as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto in November 2006. As President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, he has remained a prominent advocate of religious harmony, peace and national cohesion.
