The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has urged Muslims in Nigeria and the diaspora to use the Eid al-Maulud celebration to reflect on the virtues exemplified by Prophet Muhammad, particularly compassion, humility, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity.
Tunji-Ojo gave the advice in a message to Muslims commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, urging Nigerians to draw lessons from the Prophet’s life and promote peaceful coexistence.
“Every Eid al-Maulud gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” he stated.
The Minister emphasised that building a harmonious society was a collective responsibility, encouraging Nigerians of all faiths to unite in prayer for peace, cohesion and stability.

He urged the public to celebrate with restraint, tolerance and mutual respect.
An Imam, Abdulraheem Abdulkabir, in an interview with Voice of Nigeria, also urged Muslims to embrace the love and peaceful disposition of Prophet Muhammad towards humanity, irrespective of faith, ideology, social class or ethnicity.
Eid al-Maulud is marked with special prayers, Quranic recitations and lectures focusing on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad
To mark the annual religious celebration, also known as Mawlid al-Nabi, the Nigerian government had declared the day a public holiday.
