President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the rescue of 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and six other Nigerians abducted by criminals in Kogi State last week.
President Tinubu, in a post on his X handle, @OfficialABAT, on Monday, expressed delight that all 21 abductees, comprising eight males and 13 females, had regained their freedom following a coordinated search and rescue operation.
He disclosed that the operation was carried out by a combined team of personnel from the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and local vigilantes in the forests of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The President said the rescued victims were currently receiving medical attention before being reunited with their families.
He also disclosed that security forces were still on the trail of the kidnappers, in line with his directive to sustain pressure on criminal elements across the country.
“Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime,” he said.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians could travel across the country without fear, while protecting the lives and property of citizens.
He commended the combined search and rescue team for its courage and dedication, while appreciating the families and loved ones of the abductees for their understanding throughout the ordeal.
The President also reassured parents and families of NYSC members of his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of corps members and all Nigerians.
