The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will secure at least 25 per cent of the votes in every state in Northern Nigeria in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike also said former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar would struggle to secure 10 per cent of the votes in several Southern states.
The minister stated this on Wednesday during his monthly media parley in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while speaking on political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“There is nowhere in the North that President Tinubu won’t get 25 per cent. Atiku won’t get 10 per cent in so many southern states,” Wike said.
The FCT minister said opposition parties would struggle to defeat an incumbent president if they remained divided and relied on last-minute political alliances.
“Opposition cannot be scattered and be able to win this election,” he said.
Wike said a successful presidential campaign required adequate preparation, grassroots mobilisation and strong political structures across the country.
He also reflected on the division within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 presidential election, when five PDP governors, known as the G-5, opposed the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike said the group had worked against Atiku’s presidential bid and disclosed that the then Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, was encouraged to support the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
On the 2027 election, Wike said he expected support for President Tinubu to cut across party lines.
He disclosed that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had assured him of his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I advised Governor Adeleke to present his certificate of return to President Tinubu, and he confirmed to me he would support President Tinubu’s re-election,” Wike said.
