The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has described the death of former Governor of the defunct Gongola State, now Adamawa and Taraba States, and former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, as a huge loss to Nigeria’s business and political communities.
Tukur, who died on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday, was a successful businessman, elder statesman and one of the foremost politicians from northern Nigeria.
Abbas expressed his condolences in a message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, describing Tukur as an elder statesman whose contributions would remain indelible in Nigeria’s history.

The Speaker highlighted Tukur’s contributions to public administration, governance, industry, politics and pan-African business leadership, as well as his commitment to Islam and humanitarian service.
He noted that Tukur, as National Chairman of the PDP, contributed immensely to the development of Nigerian democracy and the promotion of standard political practices.
Abbas condoled with Tukur’s family, members of his community, business and political associates, as well as the governments and people of Adamawa, his home state, and Taraba.
The Speaker prayed to Allah (SWT) to forgive Tukur’s shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdausi.
