The United States’ President Donald Trump has sign into law a sweeping sanctions bill targeting Russia’s economy over its invasion of Ukraine by clearing the way for tighter economic pressure on Moscow.
The White House disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the legislation targets Russia’s energy and defence industries, as well as its “shadow fleet” of tankers used to evade existing sanctions.
The law, known as the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, also authorises tariffs on Russia’s major trading partners and allows the president to impose tariffs on countries that continue trading with Russia that potentially increases economic pressure on Moscow and its partners.

Reports said the bill passed the US House of Representatives on Wednesday after receiving Senate approval last month.
The bill has now been named after South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who died in July and had strongly supported the legislation.
