The Nasarawa State First Lady, Silifat Abdullahi Sule, has urged women across the state to take greater responsibility for the upbringing of their children and wards, saying proper moral training is essential to peace and development.
She made the call at a high-level women stakeholders’ engagement held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Lafia, the state capital.
The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, was themed, “Women Stakeholders Engaging to Protect Youth and Peace Ahead of 2027.”
In her address, the First Lady stressed the central role of mothers in shaping the character of children.
“Women must ensure proper upbringing of their children and wards to make them good ambassadors of their families, society, state and the country at large.”
She noted that the family remained the first point of socialisation, adding that youth restiveness, drug abuse and other social vices could be curbed if mothers were more intentional about guidance and monitoring.
Sule also used the platform to canvass support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), appealing to women to mobilise and vote for the party at all levels in the 2027 general elections.
According to her, sustaining the APC at both state and federal levels was necessary to consolidate the development strides of the administration of her husband, Governor Abdullahi Sule, and the party.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented at the event by the Head of Service, Dr Abigail Waya, also addressed the women and warned against transactional politics and vote-buying.
“Be wary of selfish politicians who go around luring the masses with small stipends to get what they want and abandon them after elections.”
Also speaking, the newly appointed Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development and co-host of the engagement, Rebecca Adamu Kpadji, aligned with the First Lady’s position.
She said the gathering was strategically organised to strengthen women’s participation ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The sole aim of the engagement was to draw women from different parts of the state to work together as a team to ensure all-round victory for the APC in the forthcoming polls.”
The engagement brought together women leaders, political groups and other stakeholders from across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state as part of early mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
