The remains of former Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Ezra Jakko (Rtd), have been laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja.
Senior serving and retired military officers, family members, friends and colleagues gathering to honour a career defined by professional service, leadership and commitment to human development.
The late senior officer was buried on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, following a funeral service at the All Saints Military Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja, where tributes to his military career and Christian service marked the final farewell.
Soldier Remembered for Professionalism, Mentorship
Delivering the funeral oration on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, described Major General Jakko as a highly professional soldier whose career reflected dedication, discipline and an unwavering commitment to duty.

The Army leadership also remembered him for the relationships he built across professional, social and religious divides, describing him as a leader whose character, innovative approach and instructional abilities positively influenced personnel who served and trained under him.
His contribution to military education was particularly highlighted through his service as Chief Instructor and Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance, where his knowledge and mentorship contributed to the professional development of students.
Career Built Through Service
Born on 15 August 1964 in Wule, Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Major General Jakko was commissioned into the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission as a lieutenant on 4 October 1989.
He subsequently rose through the ranks during a career marked by professional service and responsibility, attaining the rank of Major General and eventually serving as Chief of Account and Budget (Army).
His military career placed him within one of the Army’s key institutional functions, while his instructional assignments also gave him an enduring role in developing personnel and strengthening professional competence.
Military Service and Christian Ministry
Earlier, the funeral service at All Saints Military Protestant Church provided a second dimension to the tributes, with the officiating minister, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, remembering the late officer as a committed Christian and generous servant of humanity.
Apostle Kure said Major General Jakko devoted himself to Christian service alongside his military career and attained the position of Pastor and General Overseer of the Gospel Believers Mission.
He reminded mourners of the transient nature of life and urged the bereaved family to draw strength from their faith and the enduring memories of the life he lived.
Final Military Farewell
The farewell brought together the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin (Rtd), former Chiefs of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai (Rtd) and Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (Rtd); senior serving and retired officers; members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association; business leaders; family members; friends; and other dignitaries.
As the late senior officer was committed to earth with full military honours, the ceremony brought together the professional and personal dimensions of a life spent in service to Nigeria, the Nigerian Army and humanity.
Major General Ezra Jakko is survived by memories of military professionalism, leadership, mentorship and Christian service that shaped the lives of colleagues, students, family members and others who encountered him.
