Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have secured the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Umar Abdullahi, and four other kidnap victims after they escaped from terrorist captivity in the general area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area in the early hours of Thursday, 24 September 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.
Abdullahi, who was abducted from his residence in Bungudu town in July 2026, escaped alongside the four other victims during an intelligence-led military operation targeting a suspected terrorist location in the area.
The victims were received by troops deployed in the vicinity, provided with security cover and evacuated to a military medical facility, where they are receiving treatment and undergoing medical evaluation and routine debriefing.
One of the victims has since been reunited with family members, while arrangements are being made for the safe reunion of the remaining victims with their families and the Zamfara State Government.
The Theatre Command commended the victims for their courage, resilience and determination in regaining their freedom after a prolonged period in captivity.
It also commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism in securing the victims.
The command said Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops would sustain clearance and dominance operations across the area to disrupt terrorist activities, protect communities and support efforts to secure the return of other persons who may remain in captivity or missing.
The Theatre Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the nearest military or other security agencies.
