The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Abdullahi, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to advance data governance and digital trust in Nigeria.
Abdullahi made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, at the Commission’s new headquarters in Abuja.
The NITDA chief commended the NDPC for its progress since its establishment, noting the agency’s foundational role in developing Nigeria’s data privacy framework.
He stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration as Nigeria’s digital economy continues to expand, particularly in protecting citizens’ personal data, strengthening digital trust and supporting sustainable economic growth.

Abdullahi also pledged NITDA’s continued strategic support to help ensure that Nigeria’s data governance standards remain aligned with global best practices.
Responding, Dr Olatunji expressed appreciation for NITDA’s support, particularly during the NDPC’s transition from an internal unit of the agency into an independent regulatory commission.
He highlighted the evolution of Nigeria’s data protection framework from the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) to the enactment of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) 2023.
The meeting concluded with both institutions pledging closer cooperation to promote a safe, secure and resilient digital environment in Nigeria.
