The Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has urged corps members deployed to the state to emulate the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers and contribute meaningfully to the country’s unity and development during their one-year mandatory national service.
The governor made the call at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members deployed to Zamfara State, held at the UBEC Training Centre, Bypass, Gusau.
The governor represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kasimu Sani Kaura, urged corps members to regard Zamfara as their home throughout their service year and approach their assignments with an open mind.
“Today, I declare the orientation course exercise of Batch C Stream I open. I urge you to regard Zamfara as your home throughout your service year and to approach your assignments here with an open mind,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of all residents, including corps members serving in the state.
He described Zamfara as a state blessed with abundant natural resources and a rich cultural heritage, with people known for their hospitality, resilience and strong communal spirit.
“You are joining thousands of your colleagues who are already making meaningful contributions to the development of the state in education, healthcare, agriculture, community development and other critical sectors,” he said.
Governor Lawal said the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) remained an important platform for promoting national unity and integration.
He therefore charged the corps members to see their service year as an opportunity to understand Nigeria better, appreciate its diversity, build meaningful relationships and contribute to the development of their host communities.
The governor also advised the corps members to actively participate in all camp activities, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, to acquire relevant skills for self-reliance.
In his remarks, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, appreciated the Zamfara State Government for its support for the scheme and the welfare of corps members deployed to the state.
Ahmad appealed to the state government to provide a permanent orientation camp to accommodate the increasing number of corps members deployed to the state.
