The Fulani community in Jigawa State, north-western Nigeria, has declared its support for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi and all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 General election.

The endorsement was made at a gathering held at the Manpower Development Institute in Dutse, where the community also commended the Jigawa State Government for its livestock development programmes and efforts to strengthen peaceful relations between farmers and herders.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the event was organised under the leadership of Alhaji Shehu Hadejia to appreciate the government’s interventions in the livestock sector.

Speaking at the gathering, Hadejia praised the Namadi administration for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development and introducing programmes to address the challenges facing herders.

He highlighted the gazetting of grazing reserves, animal vaccination exercises and other initiatives designed to improve livestock production and promote harmonious relationships between farming and herding communities.

Governor Namadi described the endorsement as “a demonstration of the community’s confidence in his administration and its support for the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.”

He said; “the gathering brought together Fulani representatives from different parts of Jigawa State to express their appreciation to the government and declare their political support.”

Welfare of herders
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of herders through the provision of grazing areas, watering facilities and sustainable animal feed.

He disclosed that the state was cultivating alfalfa to ensure adequate feed for livestock, while pledging continued support for essential services, including healthcare and education, in herding communities.

Governor Namadi further said that the state government had invested about ₦3.1 billion in artificial insemination over the past two to three years to improve cattle breeds and boost milk production.

He said that “regular livestock vaccination programmes were being sustained to prevent animal diseases and improve productivity.”

The Governor emphasised that peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders was essential to preserving the peace and stability enjoyed in Jigawa State.

He urged community leaders and residents to work closely with government authorities and security agencies to identify and report activities capable of undermining public peace.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Salim Mohammed, highlighted the ministry’s achievements, including the demarcation of additional grazing reserves, livestock vaccination and public awareness campaigns on peaceful coexistence.

He said; “the initiatives were part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen the livestock sector and address the needs of herding communities.”

The endorsement comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, as political parties and community groups seek to consolidate support across the country.
