Education Minister Hails Dangote’s IPO Plan for Students

By Jack Acheme, Abuja

The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended Aliko Dangote and the Aliko Dangote Foundation for plans to acquire shares in the Dangote Refinery through an initial public offering (IPO) for eligible Nigerian tertiary institution students.

The initiative is expected to benefit up to four million students aged 18 and above, with each eligible beneficiary projected to receive 10 shares without having to purchase them personally.

In a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Folasade Boriowo, Alausa said the initiative offered students practical exposure to capital markets, responsible investing and long-term financial planning, preparing them for greater economic participation and financial independence.

He said the programme aligned with the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by linking education with enterprise, human capital development and inclusive economic growth.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to strengthening private-sector partnerships to improve the quality, relevance, equity and efficiency of education while equipping learners with skills for a changing economy.

While appreciating the foundation’s contribution to youth development, Alausa clarified that the ministry’s commendation recognised the initiative’s educational and developmental value and did not constitute an endorsement of any particular investment decision.

He encouraged other corporate organisations to emulate such initiatives and support NESRI and the Renewed Hope Agenda to build a financially informed, economically productive generation of entrepreneurs.
