NEDC hands over Housing Units, Distributes essential items To IDPs

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has formally handed over 1000 housing unit at Ngwom community in Maiduguri and distribute food and essential Items to Internal displaced Persons (IDPs )

The commission also handed over a constructed and well equipped burning center to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of 300 seater auditorium at the centre for the study of violent extremism at the University.

The Northeast Development Commission also graduated batch B of NEDC ICT training Programme at the Multipurpose hall of the Government house, during the event the Chairman of the occasion and also the Chairman committee on special duties, Senator Yusuf A. Yusuf ,while delivering his welcome address, said, ” we at the parliament happened to head the committee on special duties of the Senate”. 

“we provide the over sight role over Northeast Development Commission, at the parliament we were able to streamline the guiding principles to actualized the executive functions which is being manage by the ministry of humanitarian affairs”.

As you will know, the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs looks after NEDC and by extension she represents the mandates of Mr. President. We sat down in the years of 2019, 2020, and 2021 to approve the budget of the NEDC this project are so dear to our hearts because we believe our brothers and sisters that has been displaced for a quiet a period of time should have a place to lay their heads once again at the town of Ngwom”.

We believe the only way we can get out of the IDP syndrome is to develop some mass housing estate where people can start their day to day activities”.

Governor Zulum who also graced the occasion, in his remarks while delivering his welcome address said, “Borno State will like to use this medium to express its sincere appreciation to the ministry of humanitarian affairs under the distinguish leadership of the Honourable minister Hajjiya Sadiya Umar Farooq for her enormous contribution“.

“She has in the years rendered so many assistance to our distressed communities in Borno State In Conjunction with some agencies under her ministry such as the NEDC.”.

“Some of the interventions worth of mention are provision of food and none food items to our IDPs who are living in both IDP camps and host communities the intervention worth are now amounting to billions of naira since the inception of the ministry to date. Provision of 40 thousand double desk classroom by NEDC to our schools, drilling of boreholes , provision of health facilities and covid-19 essential, provision of livelihood materials to our communities , provision of  agricultural input to our farmers, training of youths and children, construction of 1000 housing units which we are all here to commission”.

The governor further said, “let me also bring to your kind notice that the commission is currently in the process of procuring equipment worth over 2 billion naira for our vocational training center in Borno State. Worthy of mention is also the provision of 10,000 housing unit to Carter for the internally displaced Persons (IDPs) by the Federal government. Establishment of 3 rural farms in Borno State by the presidency provision of non food items worth 4 billion naira to the displaced community in Borno State, the school feeding programme, conditional cash transfer among others all by the ministry of humanitarian affairs. All these interventions wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Honarable minister Hajjiya Sadiya Umar Farooq.

Let me also commend the Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen for assisting our women here in Borno State. I Will also like to extend my appreciation to the state minister of Education for the support we are receiving from his own ministry.
