Minister Tasks APC Group on Grassroots Mobilisation

By Eme Offiong, Calabar

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) support group, Project Beyond, have been charged to intensify grassroots mobilisation to secure votes for the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, the Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan-Enoh, gave the charge in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, south-south Nigeria, during the inauguration of the southern senatorial district structure of Project Beyond.

Owan-Enoh, who insisted that the target was to secure victory for the APC across the 196 wards of Cross River State, urged the members to move beyond ceremonial activities and focus on delivering measurable electoral results through direct engagement with voters in their communities.

He said, “You did not come here wearing your face caps and T-shirts just for ceremony alone. You came here so that you can be given the mandate of leadership to go and work and to bring us results.”

The minister further said that Project Beyond was determined to change the outcome of the 2027 general election in Cross River State by delivering all 18 local government areas to the APC.

“The determination of Project Beyond Cross River, in working with the external leadership of the APC, is to make sure it is 18 over 18. We are interested in the quantity and the volume of votes,” Owan-Enoh declared.

He urged coordinators to return to their designated polling units, markets and communities to canvass support for the party’s candidates, including the president, governor, deputy governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

“Knock the doors of houses. Go to markets, check everywhere and be able to get people to understand why it is important that President Tinubu gets their votes to return as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Owan-Enoh also urged members to mobilise support for Governor Otu’s re-election and that of his deputy as well as Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong and other APC candidates contesting legislative seats in the state.

He expressed confidence that the coordinators would deliver substantial votes for the party, stressing that the task required sustained engagement with voters rather than participation in political rallies alone.

On the composition of the support group, the minister explained that the original plan was to inaugurate the entire Cross River structure, comprising about 20,000 members in the Ikom local government area.

He said, “We were supposed to inaugurate the support group in Ikom, but we would need close to a thousand buses to move about 20,000 of the support structures. Because of that, we took a last-minute decision to inaugurate part of the south here in Calabar, the state capital.”

He explained that the inauguration was organised ahead of the APC presidential campaign rally scheduled to hold at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, expressing optimism that members of the support group would turn out in large numbers.

A highlight of the inauguration was a free medical outreach sponsored by the wife of the Minister, Rachel Owan-Enoh, which catered to residents and the support group members.

The services offered included blood pressure checks, malaria tests, eye tests, blood sugar tests, free medicines, glasses and referrals for the sick.
