Niger state Government establishes 527 family planning service centres

Niger state government in North Central Nigeria has established 527 Family Planning Service Centres across the state in its efforts to meet up with the demand of the services delivery across the state.

Executive Director of the state Primary Health Development Agency, Dr Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana who stated this during a three days Advanced Family Planning training workshop for media practioners organized by pathfinder international in Minna the capital ,mentioned that the increase is to reach out to other hard to reach areas in the state due to the gradual success of the program across the communities .

“The centres were increased from 222 to 527 due to high demand and at the same time to cover other rural Communities in the hard to reach areas of the state “.added Dr Dangana

Dr Dangana who further commended the media for advocacy and other related media activities on family planning programs in the state, urged for more media enlightenment program for the benefit of rural communities as well as other misinformed people on the activities of FP Services.

“The state is committed in the provision budget and support to the program, aside reaching out to international partners and other organizations to compliment the efforts of government on family the planning programs”.

Dr Dangana who appealed for more funding on the program by the government and other donour agencies, stated that the program is facing challenges of funds to effectively achieve it’s desired objectives.

“We have the challenges of reaching hard to reach areas in Niger state,as you know the state is very large, having almost 10 percent of the entire land mass of the country, we need more resources to be able to really expand the funding scope to cover the entire population of the state”.

The Niger state commissioner for Health,and hospital services. Dr Muhammad Makun Sidi, who however attributed some of the challenges the family planning programs encountring in the state to includes economic and ethno religious factors, mentioned that the state government has made adequate budgetary provision for easy access to family planning service without difficulties.
