Adamawa 2027: Candidates Sign Peace Accord, Reject Electoral Violence

BY Golfa Francis, Yola

Political candidates contesting the 2027 general elections in Adamawa State have signed a peace accord, committing themselves to peaceful, issue-based campaigns, rejecting violence, hate speech, intimidation, and other acts capable of disrupting the electoral process.

The candidates made the commitment at the State 2027 Violence-Free Campaigns and Elections Peace Accord Summit held at the Adamawa State Government House in Yola.

Under the accord, the political actors pledged to shun ethnic and religious incitement, threats, misinformation, disinformation, and personal attacks before, during, and after the February 2027 elections.

They also agreed to base their campaigns on their policies, programmes and visions for the development of Adamawa State, while resolving political differences through lawful and democratic means.

The summit, themed “Peace Before, During, and After the Elections,” was organised by the ABAK Peace Foundation in collaboration with the National Peace Committee and the Adamawa State Peace Commission.

The organisers said the agreement was aimed at translating the national commitment to peaceful elections into concrete action at the state level.

They stressed that sustaining peace throughout the 2027 electoral process would require the collective efforts of political parties, candidates, their supporters and other stakeholders.

Traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media, youth and women’s groups, and the electorate were identified as critical partners in preventing election-related violence.

The Adamawa Accord follows a National Peace Accord signed in Abuja in August 2026, where political parties and presidential candidates pledged to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The National Peace Committee is chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, while the Kukah Centre serves as its secretariat.
