The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has pledged continued support for the Northern Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF) to promote development and improve the welfare of women, children and vulnerable persons across Northern Nigeria.
Governor Fintiri made the pledge in Yola when he received members of the forum, led by its Chairperson, Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya, the wife of the Gombe Governor, on a courtesy visit.
The Governor commended the forum for its humanitarian and development initiatives, saying “its interventions had reached vulnerable persons and communities beyond the immediate reach of government.”
He urged them to use the forum’s deliberations to tackle challenges confronting women and children in Northern Nigeria, particularly poverty and its impact on livelihoods.
Governor Fintiri also assured the forum that his administration would collaborate with it and other stakeholders to advance development.
He acknowledged the contributions of Governors’ Wives to governance, particularly their support for their husbands and advocacy on issues affecting women, children and vulnerable groups.
On her part, Hajiya Yahaya said the delegation visited Adamawa as part of activities marking the forum’s second tri-annual meeting hosted by the state.
Strengthen Collaboration
She said the forum had brought together spouses of governors from the 19 northern states to strengthen collaboration and address challenges affecting women, children and vulnerable persons.
Mrs Yahaya said the forum had provided boreholes, supported women-owned businesses and distributed relief materials to vulnerable communities across the region.
She commended Governor Fintiri for his contributions to Adamawa’s development and praised First Lady Lami Fintiri for initiatives supporting women and children.
Yahaya specifically praised the First Lady for renovating the labour and neonatal complex at the Specialist Hospital, Yola.
She said the forum also presented a “mother’s token” to women in Adamawa as part of activities marking the International Day of Charity.
At the end of its meeting, Yahaya said the forum resolved to sustain ongoing projects, strengthen collaboration among members and development partners, and ensure that its interventions achieve lasting impact.
She said that the forum would strengthen partnerships in women and youth empowerment, agriculture and healthcare.
Mrs Yahaya added that the North-Central region would host the forum’s next meeting, with the date and venue to be announced later.
