African Cycling Championships: South Africa Leads, Nigeria In Second

South Africa tops the medals table amassing 38 points to maintain its lead at the 2026 CAC African Track Cycling Championships, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) on Sunday officially released the latest results from the ongoing championships. South Africa tops the medals table with 19 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals.

Hosts Nigeria occupies second position with seven gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals, totalling 23 points.. Egypt is placed third with seven gold, four silver and eight bronze medals, with 19 points..

Algeria sits fourth with three gold, 12 silver and five bronze medals with 20 points. Benin Republic completes the top five standings with two silver and one bronze medal with three points.

South Africa Leads, Nigeria In Second At African Cycling Championships.

A total of 103 medals have so far been won at the championship, comprising 36 gold, 35 silver and 32 bronze medals.

The championship, which commenced on May 11th will end on Sunday. The event is 12th edition of the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Track Cycling Championships.

Earlier, Nigeria recorded an impressive performance at the 3rd CAC Para Cycling Championships held from May 9th – 11th at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja.

The host nation finished top of the para championship medal table with nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals to secure 16 points, ahead of Egypt, which recorded 14 medals comprising five gold, six silver and three bronze medals.

Kenya occupies third place in the para championship standings with nine medals made up of five gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

South Africa finished fourth with three gold and one bronze medal, while Algeria completed the top five standings with two silver medals.

Eeight countries are participating in the championship, namely Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Benin Republic and host nation Nigeria.
