The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council (EXCO) has ratified key infrastructure, transportation, energy and social intervention initiatives, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to implementing projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of the people.

At a meeting chaired by Governor Umo Eno in Uyo, the Council noted that the meeting was convened to reinforce the administration’s focus on delivering the benefits of the ARISE Agenda.

In his opening remarks, at the first convening after the APC party primaries, Governor Eno stated that “the Executive Council meeting was convened to signal the administration’s commitment to effective implementation of projects and programmes for the benefit of the people.”

The Governor also welcomed the newly appointed Special Adviser on Aviation and Airport Development, Uwem Ekanem, to the Executive Council and urged members “to remain diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.”

Council ratified memoranda of the Finance and General Purpose Committee relating to the delivery of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses that have arrived at the Lagos Seaport, the construction of a passenger terminal at the CNG Mega Station at Ikot Akpan/Obio Offot in Uyo Local Government Area, and the recapitalisation of Anchor Insurance Limited.

Following a presentation on the strategic direction and mandate of the newly established Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development, the Governor-in-Council directed the Ministry to develop and submit “a comprehensive work plan with clear milestones,” budget proposals for supplementary provisions, a management plan, commercial opportunity and revenue projections, as well as growth and sustainability plans.”

On power sector reforms, Council directed the immediate provision of essential facilities for the take-off of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and ordered the preparation of a work plan and budget for approval, “bearing in mind the 18month target for delivering efficient and reliable power supply to the people of the State.”

Council also received a briefing on the planned official unveiling of the Ibom Medical City Project, including the construction of a 350-bed International Hospital and ancillary facilities such as pharmaceutical and laboratory plants, scheduled for June 23, 2026.

The Governor-in-Council applauded the initiative and called on Akwa Ibom people “to take advantage of the opportunities that the Medical City project will provide.”

In the humanitarian sector, Council noted the report on the fourth phase of free food distribution to vulnerable persons captured in the State’s Social Register. The exercise is scheduled to commence before the end of June and will cover all 31 Local Government Areas of the State.

Council further noted the transmission of twelve Executive Bills to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and commended the Speaker and members of the House for commencing consideration and public hearings on the proposed legislation.

The Executive Council, after a report by the Dean of Commissioners, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, also commended the people of the state for their peaceful conduct and support during the primary elections that produced President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno as flag bearers of the All Progressives Congress in their respective contests.

Governor Eno thanked the people of Akwa Ibom State for their continued support and urged all eligible citizens to participate in voter registration as “a civic and constitutional responsibility.”
