Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has called for stronger collaboration between the state government and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) to ensure a steady and reliable electricity supply across the state.
Governor Eno made the call when the Board and management of PHED paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Uyo.
He said reliable electricity was central to the success of his administration’s ARISE Agenda, stressing that the state’s gas resources, generation capacity and industrial potential could only translate into sustainable investment and economic growth with dependable power supply.
The Governor urged PHED to review its strategy in Akwa Ibom in line with the state’s electricity policy, assuring the company of the government’s readiness to work with credible operators.
He said the state had established the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC) to provide firm, transparent and predictable regulation, set clear expectations for investment and support the development of a thriving electricity market.
Governor Eno also urged PHED to comply with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Order of August 18, 2026, by incorporating an Akwa Ibom Electricity Distribution Company.
NERC, through Order No. NERC/2026/087, transferred regulatory oversight of the intrastate electricity market in Akwa Ibom to AKSERC pursuant to Section 230 of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Earlier, Chairman of the PHED Board, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, commended Governor Eno for his leadership and commitment to improving electricity supply and promoting economic growth in the state.
Kemenanabo said the Board was in Akwa Ibom for its meeting, which was the first to be held outside PHED’s corporate headquarters in Port Harcourt.
He pledged the company’s commitment to working with the state government to improve electricity service delivery and achieve reliable and uninterrupted power supply across Akwa Ibom.
The Governor received the delegation alongside the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; members of the State Executive Council; Chairman and CEO of AKSERC, Ms Arit Okon Uya; and other government officials.
