Anambra Develops Digital Platform To Track Public Projects

By Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka

The Anambra State Government is developing a digital platform to track public infrastructure projects and strengthen accountability in government spending.

The platform, known as DocTracker, is designed to monitor projects from contract award to maintenance while enabling residents to report concerns about project execution and the condition of public assets.

Developed by the Anambra State ICT Agency, the platform aims to improve transparency by bringing government officials, contractors and residents together to monitor public infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Okey Ezeobi, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ICT Agency, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, reviewed the platform at the ministry’s complex ahead of its planned launch in the coming weeks.

Ezeobi said government-funded infrastructure belonged to the people, stressing that residents had a responsibility to protect it.

He noted that roads were built to serve the public, adding that community participation was essential to safeguarding infrastructure and ensuring its continued usefulness.

Agbata explained that DocTracker integrates project tracking, contractor management, monitoring and maintenance to improve accountability and provide greater visibility into government infrastructure projects.

He said the platform would also enable residents and road users to provide feedback on projects at different stages of execution, including concerns about progress and maintenance.

Ahead of the launch, the ICT Agency is refining the platform’s features and training personnel of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to operate the system.

The initiative is expected to strengthen public scrutiny of infrastructure spending and address concerns over transparency in public procurement, delays in project delivery and inadequate maintenance of government-funded assets.

However, its effectiveness will depend on the accuracy and regular updating of project information, as well as the authorities’ response to feedback from residents once the platform becomes operational.
