Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has assured 1,500 members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of adequate security and welfare throughout their service year.

Soludo gave the assurance on Monday at the swearing-in and opening ceremony of the orientation course held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports and Chairman of the Anambra State NYSC Governing Board, Patrick Aghamba, the governor described corps members as critical stakeholders in nation-building, social integration and economic development.

He said the NYSC scheme remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for promoting national unity, cultural understanding and peaceful coexistence among young people from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-cultural backgrounds.

The governor urged corps members to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the scheme to develop leadership skills, build lasting relationships and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.

Soludo noted that Anambra has emerged as a leading hub for commerce, innovation, education and entrepreneurship, adding that his administration remains committed to building a smart, liveable, secure, sustainable and prosperous state.

According to him, young people occupy a central position in the state’s development agenda and are critical to driving economic growth, innovation and social transformation.

He highlighted key youth-focused initiatives of his administration, including the Solution Innovation District and the One Youth, Two Skills programme, which, he said, has trained and empowered more than 13,000 youths through skills acquisition programmes and grants valued at about ₦5 billion.

The governor encouraged corps members to embrace the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, stressing that entrepreneurship, digital literacy and vocational skills are essential for self-reliance and job creation in a rapidly evolving global economy.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to corps members’ welfare and security, Soludo said the state government would continue to collaborate with security agencies, NYSC authorities, traditional institutions and community leaders to ensure a safe and conducive environment throughout their service year.

Earlier, Aghamba welcomed the corps members to Anambra State and urged them to remain disciplined, law-abiding and committed to the ideals of the NYSC scheme.

He encouraged them to participate actively in all camp activities and uphold the values of patriotism, integrity and responsible citizenship.

In her remarks, the Anambra State NYSC Coordinator, Pauline Ojisua, disclosed that 1,500 prospective corps members successfully registered for the orientation exercise, comprising 636 males and 864 females.

Ojisua said adequate arrangements had been put in place to ensure a safe, conducive and rewarding orientation course, adding that camp management had prioritised security, healthcare, accommodation and welfare to guarantee a successful exercise.

She commended the Anambra State Government for its continued support for the NYSC scheme, particularly in the areas of security, infrastructure and corps members’ welfare.

The coordinator urged the corps members to remain faithful to their Oath of Allegiance, obey camp regulations and embrace the spirit of national service by making meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities.

The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, who was represented by Justice D.C. Maduechesi.
