The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has dissolved his first-term cabinet, directing all political appointees to immediately hand over responsibilities to senior civil servants across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as he begins a new term in office.
The directive, issued on March 18, 2026, came just a day after Soludo and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, were sworn in for a second term.
In an official memo signed by Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, all appointees were instructed to complete the handover process by the close of work on the same day, pending the formation of a new cabinet.
“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in the various MDAs… until a new cabinet is constituted,” he said in the memo.

The move signals the start of a cabinet reconstitution process, a common practice following the commencement of a new administration term in Nigeria.
Soludo’s swearing-in ceremony took place at the Alex Ekwueme Square in the state capital, Awka. The oath of office was administered by the state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, in the presence of high-profile dignitaries.
Among those in attendance were Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, as well as former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
The dissolution of the cabinet paves the way for new appointments expected to shape the governor’s policy direction in his second term.
