The African Union Commission has urged Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt to exercise maximum restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue, amid a diplomatic dispute that has heightened tensions in the Horn of Africa.
In a statement issued late on Thursday, the Commission called on the three countries to refrain from actions or statements that could further escalate tensions and undermine regional peace and stability.
It urged Ethiopia, Eritrea and Egypt to address their differences through established diplomatic channels and peaceful dialogue.

The appeal followed a series of diplomatic expulsions between the countries.
Ethiopia ordered the closure of its embassy in Eritrea and declared 10 Eritrean diplomats persona non grata, prompting Asmara to sever diplomatic ties with Addis Ababa.
Ethiopia also declared an Egyptian diplomat persona non grata and ordered him to leave the country within 48 hours.
In response, Egypt declared an Ethiopian embassy counsellor persona non grata and gave him 48 hours to leave the country.
